2012 Book:I've written a previous review on this book, a book I absolutely love. Personally, I savored reading it - up to an entire movie at a time. There were facts discovered and pictures I'd never seen in all of my other Bond books.This is a book for most collectors - the only problem is the price. It was nearly $150 after tax.************************The James Bond Archives, Dec 2015I'm not going to post this part on the Dec 2015 book page because I haven't purchased it yet so it's not fair. Something I really don't understand is the price of this book. It's on sale (reg. $70) for $40. Why so cheap when the other one was so expensive??! Are there movies already written about in the 2012 book which was edited in the current book?
This is a very big book, and its size is fully utilized to deliver a unique value - the POWER of a PRINTED book !!! No tablet could ever deliver such an enjoyable experience as this book delivers. I'm one of the big fans of the James Bond films, especially the early Sean Connery Bond films. This book not only brings back many good memories of the early Connery-Bond films but also provides interesting new information and insights. Photographs and illustrations are plenty and impressive, selected with care and attention to details. Other (Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, Craig) Bond films are covered well, too including that glorious 1967 spoof Casino Royale. If you are a fan of the James Bond films, chances are you'll get a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction from this book. My hats off to TASCHEN for reaffirming the truth that PRINTED books will never fade away.
I took some time deciding to buy this version of the book over the updated version which includes "SPECTRE". The two reasons I went with this one were: reviews complaining about the inferior binding/spine of the updated version as well as the size of the print in the updated but shrunken down version. Let me say I could not be happier with this purchase. This book is amazing and a must have for any real Bond fan. Spend the extra money and don't worry about "SPECTRE" not being included....this book is a masterpiece. You want the bigger pages and better quality binding. You will love this book.
Bought this because I had first bought the Blu-Ray set of James Bond movies in a "deal of the day" from Amazon, and saw this for a good price a little while later. If you like James Bond, this is a must have book. It is huge, quite heavy (not an easy book to read in bed) and chock full of pictures and fun facts. We had a large gathering at Thanksgiving and several people had picked up the book and went through it page by page (sad to say more than I have even to this date) talking about the movies and stuff, so that made me feel good, as they have never picked up a book of mine (and I have some 3000 plus in the library) on any subject before. I was very happy to share it for the day. I don't know if it will become a collectable or not, only time will tell, but I don't buy things for that reason, still, I would get it while you can. It is well worth it.
Another gorgeous Taschen book. Chockfull of great photos and text, beautifully designed and a must-have for Bond fans. These Archive books are huge, heavy, a bit unwieldy, but stunning. If you got in early you of course got the film strip, which is fun. But look at the price now, oh waiters.
This is a phenomenal book. I own many others on this subject and yet, most of the pictures on this new one were new to me. And what can you say about the size? The book is so heavy, it is even difficult to maneuver, but that isn't really a bad thing, as the size of its photos is what makes it so great looking in the first place.Only complaint: the presentation to every film includes some images from the titles, with the exception of "Skyfall", but the latter entry was being filmed while the book was being assembled, so this is understandable.At any rate, this book is just what you'd expect from the 50th. anniversary of one of the most beloved and surely, the longest lasting movie character of all time.Don't expect a Kindle Edition!
If you are a fan of James Bond, this book is fascinating and simply gorgeous. If I were reviewing the book alone, it would be 5 stars and beyond. The disappointment comes from the fact that the publisher did away with the 35mm film frames from Dr. No that were included in the first printing. The Amazon listing makes no mention of this anywhere. It took some digging on line to find out why our copy did not have this when we opened it. I can understand the decision to stop putting them in the book, but not changing the listing makes this incredibly deceptive.
This book is amazing! It arrived in a rather plain cardboard "suitcase-style" slipcase with a plastic handle, but WOW the book itself is beautiful! I actually weighed it as soon as it came out of the shipping box because it was so heavy. It is huge - 12" x 16.5" x 2"!There is no paper jacket, but because of the size and heft of this tome, it would probably be difficult to keep one on undamaged. The book's cover lookes like red pebble-grained snakeskin or lizard and the inside front and back cover pages are copies of a shooting schedule from "From Russia With Love". The pages are high-quality glossy paper and there seems to be something on just about every page, that's why I count 600 as opposed to the 592 stated. One page has a little plastic pocket containing a filmstrip of 12 original frames from a Dr. No. original 35mm print.I am glad to see that all of the movies from Dr. No to Skyfall are included as well as Never Say Never Again. Other reviewers have complained that much of the book is taken from DVD special features. Well, I like having a choice to either watch the features or read them. Many photos are included that have not been released elsewhere.I haven't looked much beyond the first few pages because this is the kind of book I love to consume a small serving at a time - to savor like a fine Port. For anyone who is a Bondophille, your Bond collection is not complete without The James Bond Archives.
