Very thorough book for solid "first year" understanding of electrical principals. Great for an amateur hobbyist looking to get a little more knowledge under their belt.The book is basically a TL;DR for an electrical engineering degree.

For a little background, I own a previous paperback edition of this book from years ago which is buried in storage. As I look into making several projects now that my 3D printer build is complete, I find myself in need of a refresher. I was overjoyed to see a new edition of this book had been released and was available on kindle. Now 20 minutes and 14 pages into the book I've given up and will be buying the paperback edition. In those first 14 pages I encountered 2 places where example calculations should have been displayed and an instance where the symbol for a battery was to be shown. All three situations just had a blank space with references in the text to the missing information the only indication that something was missing . As a result it's not worth my time to continue since I'm not willing to deal with the frustration of this which I assume will continue through out the text.It's a shame too, since I thought the index was well laid out, liked the hot links within the text that take you to other referenced sections of the book and know that the content of the paper edition is probably outstanding. Thank goodness that Prime will get the physical book to me quickly.04/20/16 Edit: I've raised the rating of this book from 1 to 3 since I received the physical edition of the book which is awsome and I realize the 1 rating was a little harsh. That being said, I firmly believe that if you are going to publish a kindle edition of a nonfiction book, it must be identical to the physical edition. Someone purchasing the kindle edition should be able to receive the exact same information in a kindle edition as in a physical edition. If you can't publish a book like that, I don't think it should be published as a kindle at all.I've also added a couple of images from the physical and the kindle edition of the book to illustrate the issue that I'm talking about.

I teach an introductory class in electronics at a small university. The class is intended for scientists, not electrical engineers; so the emphasis is on basic knowledge, practical troubleshooting skills, and design. I've used the Second Edition of this book a number of times with some satisfaction simply because the book covered most of what I needed. It was a great reference book for just about anything someone would want to know about electronics.However, there were some notable gaps in the Second Edition that I typically teach in an electronics class; specifically, I teach a section on transducers and microcontrollers. With the Third Edition, there are new sections on sensors (transducers) and microcontrollers, and now this book has everything in it that I could possibly want to teach. I've been using the Arduino for class the last couple of years because most scientists would use a microcontroller to design a piece of equipment instead of discrete gates and logic chips. So with these new additions, I cannot imagine any other book that would be needed for a class. So from this point forward, I will be using this book for EVERY electronics class that I teach.The detail in the book is in-depth enough for folks who want to know how everything works, BUT the person who wants to skip past the theory can certainly do that and STILL learn a lot from this book. As I teach, I tend to skip around within the book to cover what is important to me. The chapters are designed to be somewhat modular; for instance, I can teach the basics of analog electronics and transistors and then move to microcontrollers without necessarily having to spend a lot of time time on discrete logic chips.There are lots of illustrations and graphs; so those who need to see something to understand it will be pleased. There is also a lot of detail on practical things like motors that generally are NOT in an electronics book.The sections on household electricity are excellent and very useful, since some equipment/inventions would require mains power. So knowing how to be safe around it and how to use it properly is important.I haven't read every single page yet and marked it up. In a book this size, I am sure there will be some typographical errors along the way and maybe even a mistake or two in explaining something. But I would still say this book is the BEST practical book on electronics out there. Kudos to Mr Scherz and Dr. Monk. You've taken an excellent book and modernized it in a great way for the current day.In short, for a 1000 page book, anyone who buys this is getting a bargain. It's the BEST.

About the Author

Shirley Holt/Hale, PhD, is a retired physical educator from Linden Elementary School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where she taught physical education for 38 years. Dr. Holt/Hale is a former National Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year and has served as president of both the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (now SHAPE America) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.She is the coauthor of Children Moving: A Reflective Approach to Teaching Physical Education (in its ninth edition), and a contributing author for three other texts. She served as a member of the task force for the revision of the National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education. Dr. Holt/Hale is a consultant in elementary physical education curriculum, assessment, and curriculum mapping throughout the United States.

Tina J. Hall, PhD, is an associate professor in the department of health and human performance at Middle Tennessee State University. She taught elementary and middle school physical education for 18 years and has been in physical education teacher education since 2003. The book was a purchase due to my love of tattoos and the women they adorn. I was hesitant to purchase but upon reading other reviews and researching Alvarado, I thought why not. I was pleased at the picture quality and the vivacious colours used. The depiction of the female form is tantalising as well as evocative.Not all the models are covered in tattoos, some merely have one or two small ones. I can appreciate talent in photography and Alvarado definitely knows how to capture innocence and defiance in one swoop. A great addition to any photo collection and worth the money. The book is quite large and captures the tattoos in great detail. A must for those who love tattooed women and who also love the rebellion of the middle class.

The first thing that meets the eye with this collection is the cover. Many of Alvarado's pin-ups have tattoos, some exquisite, some just plain, but they leave the reader wanting more.The book is in glossy paper, so the art work is hard to distinguish between photography and illustration. There are over 145 pin-up nudes from pert to busty, the plain to the weirdest, uniforms to head-dresses and more.Robert Alvarado's photos shows the models in all their beauty, but most of all, they show the creativity of an artist who can use innovative techniques to bring out the beauty of what inspired him to take it in the first place.I recommend you grab a copy and get lost in the wonderment of such a beautiful book.

I am a big fan of pinup girls. Not what I expected but still great. I was hoping there were more of the WW2 style pinups but still some very great pictures and very artistic with the tattoos.

Bought this for my wife. She recently discovered Alvarado on InstaGram and quickly fell in love with his photography. I cam across this book by happenstance and knew immediately that I had to get it for her. The photography is stunning and the models are beautiful. The book is hardbound and made to last.

Amazing and beautiful book. Some models are repeated a bit and others just show up once with their back turned... Which is disappointing, but overall, a great book.Large pages, thick paper, great printing and hard cover. Its an amazing piece to own.

Pretty bland effort. Stick to SuicideGirls if you want tattooed pinups.

I got a lot of good ideas from these books, though, in some cases, I was forced to upscale them for a high school audience. I felt like the art and the way things are said were appealing for a younger crowd. But the ideas are definitely those that would benefit high school age students. So the books feel a little imbalanced in this way.

Perfect for Aspergers children who need help with Life Skills and Social Skills. While the book is really for groups, I have still found it perfectly useful for an only child. I just adapt the exercises. I would recommend this for Homeschooling an Aspie, which is why I purchased it.

This book is amazing! I teach a transition class for 12th graders who have a mild/ moderate learning disability and there are so many lessons included in this book that I can use. Each lesson has an objective, activity (worksheets), discussion, suggestions for extension activities, and evaluation questions (perfect for exit tickets). There are multiple categories such as self awareness, communication, budgeting, etc. The lessons aren't too difficult which will help to make my students feel confident about completing it, and not too easy so they won't feel like they're doing "baby work." I'm so excited to start implementing these lessons this school year!

Its on what seems to be a 3rd grade reading level, but helps students gain confidence. I teach a life skills class in an middle school in Brooklyn and was told that the entire curriculum is in this book. The school gave me the 5 most troubled kids in the school and it turned out to be a great tool.The books gives great ideas for lessons and activities, along with a daily worksheet. The work is highly manageable for middle school students and they end up working through the worksheet with confidence. I highly recommend this book to anyone teaching this type of course.

Well done book for students with special needs, short worksheets that cover all life skills. Very well worth the money invested. Person it was bought for enjoyed it, and understood majority of content, (functions at 10 yr old level). The life skills it covers I believe he learned andfully understood. We worked in it about fifteen minutes a day during the school week after school. Would highly recommend.

I teach in an autism unit and use this for our social skills class. It works very well for the high functioning students. I would recommend this book for all high functioning students in upper middle school and high school grades because it does talk about drugs, sex, abuse, etc. occasionally. This book will easily last all school year if you do social skills with students 1-2 times a week! Since I taught it daily, we did this book twice a week and then games and role playing on the other days.
